Sail Boson 2000 Tall Ships
Parade of Ships, Boston, July 11,
2000
Black Falcon Pier, July 14, 2000
These pictures were taken with my fifteen year old funky, little camera (pre-digital!), so even though we had a stunning view of the harbor for the Parade of Ships, we weren't quite close enough (and the camera wasn't anywhere near good enough!) to be able to see the names on many of the ships. When we visited Black Falcon Pier, I was able to identify at least some of them. I'll add that information later. For now, you'll just have to enjoy their beauty!
I took eight rolls of film - these are just a few of my favorite shots. I'll be putting more up as soon as I get around to scanning them (and quit playing with the new digital camera), so be sure to check back once in a while.
At left - the Grand Parade of Sail.
I especially like the clouds that appeared late in the afternoon. The sky
put on almost as good a show as the ships did!
Because of strong winds, many ships had to lower their sails and made their way into the harbor with the help of tugs or using their engines. |

Right - one of the few ships with sails still unfurled. A moment later... they were gone!
At left - Sails, glorious sails!
At right... More of the same.
I REALLY like rigging! Reminds me of being backstage in a theatre!
I LOVE clouds! Toward the end of the day, the sky over Boston Harbor put on a pretty good show! At right... a repeat of the first shot, with a special effect (one of my experiments!)
